Bailey Monroe knows one thing for certain: she had to leave. With her young daughter Sophie in tow, she flees from the nightmare of her abusive husband under the cover of darkness, finding safety in a quiet Texas town of Pine Grove. There, she finds refuge in the warmth of the town folk and kindness from Ms. Lucille, a spirited widowed woman who takes them in and offers hope when Bailey needs it most.
Determined to give Sophie the stable life she deserves, Bailey begins to rebuild. But opening her heart again is another story, especially when Gavin Mitchell, the town's charming veterinarian, steps into her life. Patient and kind, Gavin sees the cracks in Bailey’s armor and is willing to do whatever it takes to earn her trust. Yet no matter how safe Pine Grove feels, Bailey can’t shake the feeling that her past is only a step behind her.
Review:
4.5 Stars
This book is so beautiful. My heart just broke for what Bailey and Sophie are running from. Sometimes we are put right where we need to be and I believe that's what happened for Bailey and little Sophie. Stopping Pine Grove they find their fresh start and finally be able to feel safe. It's not without it's bumps because those scars run deep in Bailey. Oh my gosh is Gavin so swoon worthy. His patience and heart of gold are exactly who Bailey and her daughter need. I mean a man who loves animals like him is a big green flag in my opinion. There are plenty of heartfelt sweet moments, but pulse pounding moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. There is one particular nasty character that won't stay gone because he wants to get what belongs to him. Ms. Lucy is another great character that will stay with me well after finishing this one. The unconditional helping hand that Bailey didn't know she needed. Like I said a beautiful story!
