Excerpt:

He slid out of the booth and gave her a hand out, pulled her in tight before she got her feet under her. She tilted into him to keep her balance and he held her there, staring down until the light came back to her eyes, until a strong dose of desire had her eyelids flicker low. “Wanna dance?” He shifted so one leg pressed between hers, as if they’d already started slow dancing.
She licked her lips. “The music’s not right. Lights are too bright.”
“Timing’s off, too. Guess we’ll have to settle for a kiss.”
“Right here, right now?” Her hand fisted in his shirt.
“Let’s show good ol’ Derek what he’s been missing.”
Her lips curved into a brilliant smile. “You have a mean streak as wide as the Rockies.”
“I’m a big guy. I hold a big grudge.”
“I appreciate that in a man. How do you want to play it?”
“Let’s just play it by ear.” Last night he took it too fast, so this time, he leaned down, took it slow, let the anticipation build. Her eyes swirled a darker blue this close and her lips looked softer. Sweeter. Two days ago, he’d have said she didn’t have a sweet bone in her body. Now he knew better, which made the want building inside him deeper and wider. He slid his lips across hers, gently, took his time to explore, to put his stamp on her. She changed the pace when she leaned up on her toes and wrapped an arm around his neck.
Now we’re dancing. He let his hands trail down the small of her back, felt her shiver in response. He rubbed his tongue over her bottom lip and she opened for him. He took, swept inside and forced her to yield, to surrender to the passion neither of them had known was there. She moaned in his mouth, rubbed her fingers on the back of his neck. His cock went rigid. He wasn’t playing anymore. Wasn’t dancing. He wanted Dez and didn’t care who knew.
She broke the kiss, leaned back for one last nip before stepping back. “That should do it,” she said, her voice husky. She could pretend it was all for show, but she was affected. They both were. Dez turned, went to the back and Mick sat down before the whole bar saw his hard on.

ABOUT CINDY SKAGGS

Most of those stories were even true. She has ten siblings, some of whom are older than her mother, has nieces and nephews older than her, and once went to a horse auction with John Wayne. Well, with him in the sense that he was there, and she was also… there. She was the munchkin in line for his autograph with tangled hair and bruised knees that liked to dance on her daddy’s dusty cowboy boots and listen to his tall tales. With her love of storytelling and heroes, it’s no wonder she turned to books and stories after her father died. She skipped most of the eighth grade to bury herself in books while hidden in her closet, because she was still looking for the perfect story and the last honest man. Her search took her around the world with the Air Force as well as around the world with her education. She’s visited more countries than she can remember, nearly every state in the U.S., and has more degrees than the Tin Man. As a single mom, she’s still gambling, betting on herself for the first time in her life, turning her lifelong love of storytelling into the one thing she can’t live without: writing. She writes 10,000 words a week in cafes and coffee shops, and some of those 10,000 words are even worth reading. She has an MA in Creative Writing, is working towards her Master of Fine Arts, and has three jobs, two kids, a Pushcart Nomination, more pets than she can possibly handle, and more works in progress than the crew filling potholes after a long Colorado winter.
