Excerpt:

Before fame and before fortune, I lived in a tiny one bedroom apartment in Las Vegas. My rent and bills prevented me from saving money, but at least I managed to avoid debt. At twenty-one years old, I was proud to live alone and support myself. I didn’t have a car. My clothes, appliances, and furniture were all purchased from resale shops. I didn’t have anything nice, but I had everything I needed. My apartment building was questionable. There were numerous break-ins. I got scared enough to buy a gun off of my neighbor. I also bought a big knife that I kept underneath my pillow. Someday I hoped to move into a nice house with a husband and dog, maybe even kids. Out of loneliness I would have occasional company, usually a nameless face that I met in a bar. Sex was easy. Feelings were not. After several weeks of blogging and then several more weeks of Eric’s nagging, I set out to write a novel. Characters, various settings, and plot lines appeared out of nowhere when daydreaming. All I had to do was record the scenes that played inside of my head. On sleepless nights, I would often type in a frenzy as flashes of the story burned through my fingers like electricity.  I was extremely particular on my wording and chapter arrangement. The writing process became more of a task than coming up with the actual plot. When my laptop wasn’t handy, I’d write on napkins, receipts, paper towels, or anything within reach. I took my scraps home and carefully added them into the story. I did not have a printer. Two months after I started my novel I took my flash drive to the library and printed
the manuscript.
