No woman wants a pity proposal.
Just because I’m turning forty, dealing with perimenopause, and recently dumped another loser doesn’t mean I need rescuing—especially not by my best friend.
But when Dallas Gamble blurts out that we’re engaged in a very public attempt at protecting me, there’s not much I can do but play along. Bless his dumb, beautiful heart.
The man has always been impulsive. Protective. Flirty. And able to fill out a pair of Levi’s like nobody’s business. In no time at all, he slides a ring on my finger, moves me into his house, and swears it’s no big deal.
But then things get complicated.
Because suddenly, he’s trying—as in, really trying. And even though every clumsy romantic gesture ends in disaster, it’s getting harder to pretend this isn’t real.
Dallas Gamble was never supposed to be my happily ever after. If we do this, I risk losing my best friend.
And if we don’t… I might lose the great love story I’ve been chasing my whole life.
But I’m starting to think it’s about bucking time we go for it.

REVIEW:
5 Stars
I'm here for this series! This first book had me at best friend to lovers and single dad. I love that this is an over 40 romance. Just turning that age myself a few months ago I appreciate the seasoned characters more now. This book has such a great sense of humor. I can't tell you how many times I caught myself laughing while reading this one. Meemaw is a hoot. I just love the quirkiness of the characters. This is a book that you can easily get lost in. Dallas and Shelby had made a marriage epact long ago and now Dallas is coming to collect. Dallas and Shelby have that true deep connection from friendship, but you can easily see so much more to those feelings. This forced proximity situation is going to have that coming to a boiling point. This book has the perfect combo of heat, heart, and humor. I loved Shelby so much. She is so good with Dallas' son. The Gamble family is going to steal your heart. I really can't wait for more from this series. I'm already invested!
