With a terrifying ordeal behind him, former navy SEAL Jubal Pierce was supposed to stay in Covenant Falls, Colorado, for only a day or two. That's it. He's not prepared to put down roots here—no matter how intriguing the town's new doctor happens to be. Not to mention Dr. Lisa Redding's teen brother is on a troubled path that's all too familiar. Suddenly Jubal finds himself entangled in the community and with deep, unfamiliar feelings for Lisa. But maybe a little detour is just what a warrior needs to find his true purpose…and true love.

Welcome to Covenant Falls!
Covenant Falls is a very special town in Colorado. It has become a healing place for returning vets with the assistance of rescue animals and a quirky town population.
Three former vets – a wounded ex-Army Ranger, an Army chopper pilot and an Army battlefield surgical nurse – have found belonging, a home. . . and love there.
The newest residents are former Navy Seal Jubal Pierce and Dr. Lisa Redding in the February release of “The SEAL’s Return.” And their romance is the most troubled-filled of all. . .
But first I would like to tell you how the series, “Home to Covenant Falls” originated.
The most frequent question I’m asked is “Where do your ideas come from?”
With me, the kernel of an idea usually begins with something I read in a newspaper. It often just takes a sentence to inspire a number of ‘what ifs’ in my writer’s brain.
That was the genesis of the Home to Covenant Falls series. I’ve always wanted to write stories about those who serve in the military, but the right idea never came, not until I read a story in The New York Times about military dogs who, like many human warriors, return home with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
That story, combined with others I’ve read about PTSD, sent my writer’s mind racing. I started researching both human and canine PTSD, and gradually an Army Ranger and a military dog started to take focus.
The first in the series, ‘”The Soldier’s Promise,” is the tale of a wounded Army Ranger with survivor’s guilt after his best friend dies saving his life, and Amos, his friend’s military dog. It was meant to be a stand- alone book, but I fell in love with my fictional town of Covenant Falls with its never say quit state of mind.
I was delighted when readers gave it great reviews on Amazon.
But then one story was not enough. Covenant Falls had seized my heart and other stories started to pour out of the writer’s well. The fourth, now being published, features Jubal Pierce, a Navy SEAL.
Jubal is one of my all-time favorite heroes. After a two years of imprisonment by terrorists, he no longer meets the physical requirements of the SEALs. He had been offered a job as a SEAL trainer, but turned it down. “Too many memories. Too many friends dead. Too many sleepless nights because of nightmares. . . problem was he didn’t have the heart for anything.”
Not, at least, until he reluctantly agrees to visit a former army friend in Covenant Falls and meets Dr. Lisa Redding, the new town doctor, and her young and troubled brother.
Their romance does not go well. A healer who has seen too much violence in a major Chicago Hospital, Lisa immediately fears the odd connection between her teenage brother and a scarred warrior who has known nothing but violence all his adult life.
Not only that, their lives are going in opposite directions.
She’s in town for a year only to help her brother after his arrest in Chicago, then plans to head back to Chicago and a coveted fellowship in Pediatric Surgery.
He, on the other hand, sees no meaningful future. The only thing he knows is war.
Impossible?
Not in Covenant Falls.
I hope you visit and feel its magic. The people there will make you feel right at home. And, hopefully, put a smile on your face.
